Xavier Castañer

Xavier Castañer (BA & MBA, ESADE; PhD in Business Administration, University of Minnesota) is Full Professor of Strategy at the University of Lausanne (UNIL). Prior to joining UNIL, he was Assistant Professor at the Business Policy Departments of ESADE (1994-97) and HEC Paris (2002-08). He has also taught at the LBS, Technion, UCSC and UNIGE and has been a visiting scholar at Boston College, SCANCOR and Tel Aviv University.

He teaches and conducts research about organizational governance, strategy, design and development as well as creativity and innovation, publishing at AMR, AiSM, ASQ, CGIR, IJIM, JCE, JoM, JMS and SMJ. He serves in the Editorial Review Board (ERB) of SMJ, JOD, MR and BQR, and has served on the ERB of AMJ, NML, and OS. He has consulted in strategy and planning for the Executive Office of the City of Barcelona, Col.lectiu Ronda, Catalan Institute for Women and Geneva Industrial Services. He is active at the Academy of Management (AOM), CCC, the European Academy of Management (EURAM) and the Strategic Management Society (SMS).

At AOM he served in the Business Policy and Strategy division research committee and as member of its executive committee. At SMS, he served as a rep at large of the Corporate Governance and Strategy IG, officer of the Strategy Process Interest Group, and rep at large of the Cooperative Strategies Interest Group. He was EURAM Strategic Management SIG pre-conference chair and national representative of Switzerland at EURAM’s board (2014-2017) and, since 2017, serves as EURAM VP for external relations.
